Dominio de Atauta Valdegatiles, Ribera del Duero, Spain 2016

The most structured and powerful of the single-vineyard wines is the Valdegatiles 2016, where the fruit is more black than red, but the wine retains very good freshness. Here, the soils are more clayey than in the other vineyards, and they are lower in elevation and sit at a lower altitude on the valley floor. The vines receive more water, so the wine is both powerful and very fresh. The tannins are fine-grained, and there is very good balance.
